Hi Paul.
Strange experience today.
I’m currently in Leeds undertaking a course as part of my job. The course is being held in the City centre, in a building called Phoenix House on South Parade, Leeds LS1 5QX.
The classroom is on the first floor with a number of large windows on one side of the room, facing and looking down on to South Parade. With around 12 other people including one colleague from my place of work, undertaking the three day course.
Today has been mainly sunny and we were getting a lot of natural light flooding through the windows (no blinds) into the classroom. Enough for one of the delegation to request some of the classroom lights to be turned off due to the suns glare on the large TV screen showing a power point presentation.
Around mid morning (Sorry didn’t note time) the room and outside went dark like nighttime for second then flicked back to daylight.
As soon as it happen, I turned to my colleague from my company, who I was sat next to and said “What was that?” She said “I don’t know? Was it a mini eclipse or something?”
The lecturer then looked at me and my colleague and said “Did you see that? I thought I was going mad then! I thought the end of the world was happening!” He then got up and looked out of one of the windows! Then sat back down and continued with lecture.
It was like the sun blinked off then on.
Also, it’s puzzling the others in the room didn’t say anything - or even acknowledged it happened. It seemed like a moment only experienced by the three of us.
Myself and my colleague returned to our hotel and before departing to our rooms, I asked her what she thought it was? We wondered if it had been a low level helicopter flying over the building which had blocked out the sun. But we didn’t see or hear one. Or a tower crane had lifted a large object that had block the sun light to our classroom. However, although there are a few tower cranes in Leeds city at the moment, it didn’t seem like being in a shadow of something.
It’s went nighttime and dark for a second, then back to daylight.
Very strange. Anyway, just thought I’d share this experience.
Kind Regards,
Richard W
Paul: A really strange experience witnessed by several of you. It sort of mirrors the sort of thing that happens at Bempton sometimes, only in reverse. We occasionally get sudden flashes of "daylight" in the darkness of night.
