Hi Paul.
Event 3; is the main one and this was the day when at the time it felt like my life changed forever and ghosts were suddenly a real thing, although that feeling has very much worn off over time and it's now just a memory although that doesn't change the facts of what happened.
Myself and ex partner were renting a 3 bed house that was probably built in the 70s or 80s so not old. We had three children with us most of the time, two of which were sharing a room which was right above the living room. They were probably aged about 8 at the time so used to go to bed relatively early. Their bedroom had laminate flooring. Quite often some time after they'd gone to bed we used to hear moving about / footsteps and on a few occasions the sound of someone running quickly across the floor. Sometimes I would go and check and the kids would be asleep in bed.
We never thought much of it but that house just seemed quite "noisy". We never really thought of it being anything spooky it was always just a bit odd that half the time there was some degree of noises above us when we had stayed up after the kids had gone to bed.
So a few days before the main part I was in bed alone, partner was at work on lates, can't remember what time it was - it would have been late but before midnight. I had left a light on downstairs so there was a bit of a glow. I had one child at home in another bedroom asleep. My bedroom door was open, it was pretty much left open permanently as we normally had one or more children at home and to be honest it used to naturally swing / rest in an open position anyway.
I wasn't asleep and I heard what sounded like about 4 or 5 footsteps on the stairs. It was quite clear and really sounded like someone walking up the stairs. It sounds daft but I was quite comfy and warm in bed and there was a nice warm glow on the landing from the downstairs light I'd left on, so it didn't really bother me, daft as it seems. I just stayed in bed and will have gone to sleep. Pretty sure I would have mentioned it to my then partner after the event but can't say 100%.
Anyway, it wasn't long after this my partner and I were in bed one night. No kids at home that night. Can't remember the time but seem to think it was about 1 a.m.. Now I can't remember again if something switched us on to this, but I seem to think it must have done, maybe some noises downstairs, because a bit like the previous event we were both awake and ready and listening out and heard what happened next.
What we heard was a set of footsteps coming up the stairs, and when I mean a set of footsteps I mean probably 8 or 10 footsteps coming up from the bottom to the top, in perfect sequence, and making the perfect sound of a human foot stepping on a carpeted wooden staircase, and about 2 or 3 steps onto the landing to right outside our bedroom door. Now when I say clear, and the timing, I can't stress enough how this was a definite set of steps, all the way up the stairs, to outside our bedroom door. Not creaking, not the house cooling down, or the wood making noises, I mean perfect steps from the bottom to the top, ended at our bedroom door which was maybe 15 feet away as it was quite a long bedroom.
Now we both gripped each other in sheer terror as this happened, bearing in mind this is like a ten or 15 second event not just a second or two, and although the sound was just as clear as though a burglar may have been walking up our stairs, we both knew fine well that's not what it was. So after that once it had been quiet for a minute or so we got up turned all the lights on nothing there. The feeling at the time was as though "wow" my world has just changed forever, ghosts are real and that was a ghost.
I still say now to people that the sound was so perfect that it however improbable it is that ghosts exist, it is more probable that that was a ghost than any natural sound ie house cooling down etc.
There was a very strange follow on to this as well, I can't remember if it was the morning after or very soon after, but one morning around 7 a.m. my then partner's ex husband was dropping off two of the children on his way to work at 8 a.m. and on arriving at our house knocked on the door. As usual, we hadn't set any alarm and on hearing the knock on the door would quickly throw something on and go and answer the door to let the kids in.
Now on this particular day the knock on the door came and as usual we both quickly woke up. I remember it was a bright sunny normal day, approx 7-7.15 a.m.. Just as my partner was leaning over grabbing a dressing gown to throw on, we both heard significant movement halfway up the stairs, we both looked at each other and both instantly thought the same thing - shit we've left the door unlocked all night - the noise to me sounded like the kids dumping school bags on the bottom few steps. Partner throws on her dressing gown and runs out of the room, before we've had a chance so say anything, we've just had this look to one another as if to say "shit we've left the door unlocked". Anyway, she gets to the front door and I hear her unlock it, greet the kids and let them in. She comes back and I say I thought we must have left the door unlocked? Did you hear that noise on the stairs? Now she later denied saying this but I swear she did - she said yes I heard it, and as I got to the top of the stairs something ran away the last few steps..
This was at 7-715 am on a bright summer's day morning. approx 2015
That's it really. Can't really remember if the noises just wore off or what. At the time it was life changing and for a few days I was quite scared. I even sat at the top of the stairs a few times and just took pictures on my phone to see if anything appeared (it didn't). The feelings worn off now and I've more or less forgotten about it but when I go over the facts nothing's changed:ß it still happened. p>Many thanks, S.
